Not Like Loving You – out TODAY!

January 25, 2010

My latest single “Not Like Loving You” is out today – and I’ve been preparing all month with radio promotion, live shows, and a new music video.

We shot the music video in New York with director Ryan Stober, who also made “Second Time Around.”  I didn’t have my Gibson with me, so I used my electric guitar instead, a 1952 Fender Esquire. Check it out!  To see the new video for “Not Like Loving You,” click here.

Back in the UK, I had a busy week of live dates to promote the single.  Last Friday the band and I flew from London to Scotland to play a packed theatre in Glasgow (which was a former naughty adult cinema – no crossover audience there!) for the Celtic Connections Festival.

After getting an un-Godly early flight back to London (I got two hours of sleep; the band stayed up all night), we recorded the pilot for Terry Wogan’s new live radio show on BBC Radio 2.

Our show in London at the Luminaire was packed out and so much fun, it didn’t even matter that my guitar was having technical problems at first. (What do I expect, dragging a 1946 Gibson around on airplanes all the time?)  Wednesday I took the train to Cardiff for a performance on BBC Wales.  Thursday the band and I went to Newbury, and played a show for a very attentive, quiet audience.  Every night is different!

“Not Like Loving You” is now in its fifth week on the heaviest rotation playlist on BBC Radio 2.  I’ll be performing on BBC Kent at 1930 tonight and BBC Cambridge at 2020 tomorrow, Tuesday 26th.  Then it’s off for a low-key holiday in Malta.  I plan on shutting myself away and writing some new songs.  Flights and hotels were cheaper than a night out in London!  This amazing year and all of my adventures will become pen to paper very soon.

Thanks!

What a wonderful start to 2010!  My new single “Not Like Loving You” hit the BBC Radio 2 charts at the highest rotation level possible – right up there with Alicia Keys and Robbie Williams.  Meanwhile back in New York, I shot a music video with director Ryan Stober for “Not Like Loving You,” which I will post online in the next week.

And I finally got to see the documentary by Susan Cohn Rockefeller focusing on my tour playing for the troops in Iraq.  “Striking A Chord” is about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how music (and specifically live music) helps the troops ease back into a sense of normalcy.  Susan is making her final edits to the film this month, and will release it to the film festivals in the spring.

I’ve come back to snowy London now, and am gearing up for a busy few weeks of touring and radio promotion.  Today I head to Cardiff to play on BBC Wales.  On Friday I’ll be in Glasgow, Scotland with my band for the winter music festival Celtic Connections.  I’m back in London this weekend to record the pilot for Terry Wogan’s new live radio show on BBC Radio 2.

Next Tuesday my band and I play a show in London at the Luminaire in Kilburn.  I found a great opening band, Adrian Roye & the Exiles, who will start at 8 pm.  I’ll hit the stage at 9. On Thursday of next week we’ll be on the road to Newbury.

Hope you all are following your dreams, recession be damned.  And remember those snow boots….

Love,

Nell
